All I Want, Girl Is You

Hello
I'm the guy who sits next to you
And reads the newspaper over your shoulder
Wait
Don't turn the page
I'm not finished
Life is so uncertain

Given that true intellectual and emotional compatibility
Are at the very least difficult
If not impossible to come by
We could always opt for the more temporal gratification
Of sheer physical attraction
That wouldn't make you a shallow person
Would it?

 If Ford is to Chevrolet
What Dodge is to Chrysler
What Corn Flakes are to Post Toasties
What the clear blue sky is to the deep blue sea
What Hank Williams is to Neil Armstrong
Can you doubt we were made for each other?

Look I understand too little too late
I realize there are things you say and do
You can never take back
But what would you be if you didn't even try?
You have to try
So after a lot of thought
I'd like to reconsider
Please if it's not too late
Make it a cheeseburger

We Are Marching

Socialism is on my mind right now... I realize how this is going to make me look, but is this really what is best for America? I started thinking about this after seeing the CNN video where they asked 3 Bernie Sanders supporters to define Socialism. I understand that it was 3 people, and CNN is putting the spin on it that they want to, but the lesson I'm taking from this is that the majority of Americans these days don't think, they just go with what sounds good. I know that after November someone will be making and posting a meme of Padme from Star Wars using her line "So this is how liberty dies...With thunderous applause." So here we go, America... Let's prove that we have common sense. I challenge us all (myself included) to actually understand the candidates who are running for office. Understand what they stand for. Understand what they are trying to accomplish. Understand the office itself. I'm not telling you who to vote for. I never will. I just hope we all make informed decisions. *Edit* Here are two lists. Added to help with the decision making process. What the President CAN do: make treaties with the approval of the Senate. veto bills and sign bills. represent our nation in talks with foreign countries. enforce the laws that Congress passes. act as Commander-in-Chief during a war. call out troops to protect our nation against an attack. make suggestions about things that should be new laws. lead his political party. entertain foreign guests. recognize foreign countries. grant pardons. nominate Cabinet members and Supreme Court Justices and other high officials. appoint ambassadors. talk directly to the people about problems. represent the best interest of all the people What the President CANNOT do: make laws. declare war. decide how federal money will be spent. interpret laws. choose Cabinet members or Supreme Court Justices without Senate approval. This was taken from the Harry S. Truman Library and Museum http://www.trumanlibrary.org/whistlestop/teacher_lessons/3branches/17.htm Also, I have included the Merriam-Webster definition of "Socialism" below, so you can not sound like a fool if CNN decides to ask you to define socialism too!

You Know It’s All Right

So…Apparently I am a huge nerd. This is according to my wife.

Today I found a wiring diagram and built an A/V Cable for my Atari Jaguar so that I can actually play the thing on a modern TV.

Here is what I have:

I used 3 A/V cables from some AT&T U-Verse returns from work and the connector from a 5.25” floppy disk cable.

The results are most definitely usable!

I am happy about this!

Next project? Get the CD-Rom working! Rumor has it all of the Jaguar CD games are A-Available for download and B-Work just fine on standard CD-R discs.

Dancin' In The Streets Of Hyannis

More like #TakeBackOurGrammar!

Also, let us not forget that David Bowie and "Ric Edelman" AKA Alan Rickman weren't exactly Americans.

I guess the first two deaths were actually Common Sense and Simple English?

In The Not Too Distant Future

So I finally achieved my goal of obtaining every episode of Mystery Science Theater 3000...Like 3 weeks ago.

About two days after I finished with that, Joel Hodgson (the man who created the show) announced a Kickstarter campaign to revive said show.

It is now on track to make six new episodes.  With the goal of making twelve and being able to attract some network somewhere to start the series anew.

If I have some money lying around when this run of bills is taken care of for the month, I'm totally giving some to it!

Would You Like To Watch TV?

So this is me.

Sitting here typing this on a much larger monitor than I am used to.  My mother gave us a TV that is much (relatively so) larger than my old one.  I don't have a tape measure to work it out with, but suffice it to say, It doesn't fit in my entertainment center any more.  Now it is on top.  And I am going to put records where the TV used to live.

So, It's a win no matter how you look at it.

Thanks mom!

(The System Of) Doctor Tarr and Professor Fether

Ugh.

Finally have all of the posts from 2002 moved over from *cough*diaryland*cough*.  Took forever.

I was about 2/3 of the way through everything about six months ago, when I realized all my times were three hours off.  For some reason the blog was defaulting to California time. Go figure.  Instead of doing complicated math (complicated math = current time - 3 hours, carry the date if applicable), I decided to just ditch every entry that wasn't tagged with "blogger" and "photography" and start fresh.

Because, you know, creating that much extra work for something that no one will even notice or care about is considered "easier".

A little bit about my tagging system.  One will always represent the year the entry was written, and one will always represent the platform it was originally written on (lj-*insert journal title here* is LiveJournal, dl is DiaryLand, okc is OkCupid and fb is Facebook).

Over the years I have had two LiveJournal accounts.  They do both still exist, but the last update was sometime in 2013 I believe.

The photography entries that are spread out over the last five or six years are posted according to the date they were taken.  The time is just made up to look fancy.

Most of the rest of the tags are fairly self explanatory, although there are a few that I made up so as to not have a person's name just chilling in my tag list.  Some of them are easier to work out than the others.  I'm also debating whether or not to change the name in the post to match the tag.  So we shall see, I guess.

Little Drops Of Rain Whisper On The Pain, Tears Of Loves Lost In The Days Gone By

Starbucks Spike  Led Zeppelin Avacado ChickenRaptors

I have noticed a disturbing trend about myself.  I no longer write.  It is a thing I have always enjoyed doing.  I no longer put a lot of serious thought into what I blog about.  Well starting last night that all changes!  So, without further delay...

So.

This is what it is like to be an adult.

For real.

I feel like I have spent the last eighteen years of my life just sort of coasting along.  Drifting aimlessly if you will.  There have been some bad times.  There have been some good times, there have been some downright rad times,

It is December.  The year is basically over at this point.  Sure, we have a bit more to go.  Sure, my "professional life" is supposed to be doing the crazy thing, but there is also the joy that is Christmas.  Even if it is buried in all the gobbledygook that society wants us to demands that we buy into.

There is, however more to my and my life.  A side that I haven't actually written anything about in recent memory.  Not online, not anywhere, honestly.

I haven't written about the whole "Getting Married" thing, and I certainly haven't written about the whole "Having A Kid" thing.  That last part, by the by, will be happening in the next one to two weeks.  Go figure, right?

Anyway, November ended on a pretty positive note.  The Friend I wrote about last night?  I actually managed to track her down and have a brief(ish) Facebook conversation with her.  Turns out her life is going pretty well, even if it is not what she was expecting either.

I have managed to get some of my goals checked off.  I bought a Jeep Wrangler in '03.  Still have the old beast, although she has definitely seen better days (and will again, I've no doubt).

I've done some traveling.  I've been to Florida, South Carolina, California, Ohio, Kentucky, Texas, Illinois, Arizona, New Mexico and Washington D.C.  Granted, Arizona and D.C. were nothing but airport stops, but hey, They count!

There were some unplanned things along the way too.  I basically got bored with life and joined the Army once.  Great fun, didn't pan out.

I've spent some time working at a liquor store.  Which has was both terrifying and interesting.

As for my employment history, I have decided that the best job I've ever had was Arby's.  It was less about the money and more about how much fun I had working with the people that were there.  I feel that was one of the best parts of my life.  Things were really rocking along, especially from '03 - '06.

But that time was not just about the Arby's Life.  There were other things going on too.  There were my Starbucks friends.  Only one of them that I know what happened to.  KCAndTheSunshineBand, if you ever read this, feel free to chime in and let me know how you fared.  I feel like someone once told me that you ended up somewhat north of here after you finished up with school, but that's about all I have.  You too, were one of the people I greatly admired and would love to follow up with all these years later, but I suspect that it is not to be.

In about 2010 I bought my first real camera and have been having a grand old time taking pictures.  There are some places I would love to go and see.  When I was in Texas a few years back, my roommate would not let me trespass on the site of the old Marfa Airfield.  Sad days.

Anyway, there is a lot more to life, but that is the abbreviated version.  Maybe about this time next year I will do this again.

Also, the world WILL be a much better place in 2016...Mystery Science Theater 3000 will be making it's triumphant return from the land of the dead!

I realize this has bounced around like a ping pong ball in a dryer, but it has been good for me.

Goodnight sweet readers, and flights of angels sing thee to thy rest.

You Need Coolin'

It is amazing to me how people can have a huge impact on our lives, but can then flit out with little to no notice and seemingly never be heard from again.
I was thinking about that a couple of days ago.
Thanksgiving is always rough for me given that my sister died the day after about ten years back.
There was this girl I knew. She worked at Starbucks (real shocker there, I know.), and was basically there for me in a way no one else ever had been. Even if all that meant was sitting at a table with me for a good long time while I stared off into the nothingness trying to wrap my head around what happened.
Losing track of her is probably one of the few things in my life so far that I actually regret.  Every now and again I try to track her down.  I figure I did it once on MySpace,  I can do it again.
