A friend at work asked to get a friend in. The friend started today. I wonder how much trouble this is going to end up being.

But Sure As Night Turns Day It's The Passion Play
Things happen. It's funny what people think I'm doing vs. what I think I'm doing.
I wonder what Fearless Leader thought when he walked up and someone was talking to me this evening at work.
Someone that there were some...Vaguely hinted at "concerns" about.
Someone I almost feel like he was trying to justify losing for one reason or another.
Someone I actually had to subtly fight to keep them employed.
Someone who actually has no idea how close they were to possibly losing their job for...Reasons?
Anyway, I know you probably have no idea this even exists, but you're welcome.

Our Lives Change Like The Weather
That weird moment when I had a realization at work earlier:
A week from Thursday there really isn't anything else holding me to that place.
A business deal I was transacting with someone since late October closed last week, my pittance of a bonus will arrive in my bank account on Thursday. It's weird that they are doing it quarterly now instead of annually. Yes, the amount is a great deal less than previous, but it will happen a little more frequently.
Suddenly there are, for me, four different points where I can walk away and not feel too cheated by losing out on it instead of one.
Needless to say, I'm tempted. If I end things at work and go to a different schedule, I have the suspicion that things will get back to where they were last year when I was working a couple of daytime shifts a week. Which I don't see myself surviving.

Wanna be hackers? Code crackers? Slackers
Ugh.
This drama at work is seriously cutting into my time to just exist. I was there until around 2am writing emails, making signs and making sure people clearly knew what they were walking into at 6.
It's been unpleasant, but it is what it is.

I Can’t Decide
[location | home, home on the range]
[have you had a violent moodswing today | blah, bordering on depressed]
[the sounds of | The washing machine]

The title says it all, really.
I did a thing at work this week, and if it ends up where my boss thinks it is going to end up, he said I would have some serious freedom to advance quickly in ways that I wouldn’t normally think possible.
Is it bad that I just want my previous position with my previous people back?
Ambition? Screw that.
Although, I did finally figure out a decent way to get my old Location/Mood/Music lines from LJ to look here.

Take My Hand Child, Come With Me
On Thursday at work I ended up spending many hours with General Carville. At the end of it, I was picking up my things. Among them was a speaker and my iPod. General Carville said that they were waiting for me to turn on the music.
I said that I was planning on turning it on so that I could get out of my own head, but when they came back to help me out, I decided not to. My reasoning was that I do not know what kind of music is their kind of music, and that there was already enough noise in the place, so I’d not add more to it if it was not going to be appreciated.
I was given a sort of specifically vague answer on Thursday.
Today I got a little more clarification on the subject. I can safely say that they would have not appreciated what I was planning to listen to…Led Zeppelin II.

And Be Back To Work Before Two
I haven't been to work for over a week now, and the only thing I can think to ask about it is "I wonder how my 4 O'clock friend is doing?"

Time Keeps On Slipping Into The Future
Quit my job at The UPS Store a couple of weeks back, now I am picking items off shelves in a warehouse for a medical company. Intellect stretching, it is not but after the garbage I was dealing with before, it is a dream! I was looking for something that keeps the bills paid while affording a sort of mental reset before
I jump back into the world of leadership/management, and I’m hoping this is it. So far it looks good.
Would be nice if the place was a bit more organized and they maybe did not lie to us about the hours. We shall see how long this one works out. There is another place near my house that I may see about getting on at instead…

Flying Graceful And Free
Yesterday I scheduled a job interview for Wednesday morning, so that probably is affecting my mood and and general outlook on this day.
Today feels sort of like the start of my farewell tour. It sounds odd, I know, but after 11 years I feel like it is time to go. It feels like the start of a month of last things...
I feel like I have sort of already checked out.
I wonder if I have had my last conversations with so and so?
Fixed my last problem at such and such store?
Am I preparing to visit each of these stores that I have worked in since 2007 for the last time today?
I'll know more on Wednesday, I guess.

I’m On The Highway To Hell
Walked into work today knowing it was either going to be 40 degrees inside the building or 90 degrees due to the AC being either left on or turned off over the course of the long weekend. I was hoping for 40 since it is easier to warm the place up than cool it down.
Also, I had a jacket in the car.
Incorrectamundo.
Today was truly a sick burn…

All The Small Things
So it would seem that I am terrible at my job because I won’t accept a print out of a cell phone photo of an out of state driver’s license as an acceptable form of ID in order to notarize a paper.
All I could think the whole time was Saturday’s recurring joke/punchline from work…Because people.

Automobile With Comfort, Really Built With Style
Car lost another brake caliper pin (seriously? I didn’t even touch those while working on brakes!) on the way to work this morning…TERRIFYING!
So I’m in the parking lot at work dealing with it at least an hour after closing time and I had, no joke, at least a half dozen people ask if I could help them with insert The UPS Store related transaction here.
Keeping in mind I was filthy, taking up two parking spaces, wheel and brake hardware off my car and in the parking lot.
Not once did anyone ask me if I needed any help, it was all “Why cannot you take care of me?”
Sigh. People.

But Stay Off Of My Blue Suede Shoes
The Shoe Event Horizon is an economic theory that draws a correlation between the level of economic (and emotional) depression of a society and the number of shoe shops the society has.
The theory is summarized as such: as a society sinks into depression, the people of the society need to cheer themselves up by buying themselves gifts, often shoes. It is also linked to the fact that when you are depressed you look down at your shoes and decide they aren't good enough quality so buy more expensive replacements. As more money is spent on shoes, more shoe shops are built, and the quality of the shoes begins to diminish as the demand for different types of shoes increases. This makes people buy more shoes.
The above turns into a vicious cycle, causing other industries to decline.
Eventually the titular Shoe Event Horizon is reached, where the only type of store economically viable to build is a shoe shop. At this point, society ceases to function, and the economy collapses, sending a world spiralling into ruin. In the case of Brontitall and Frogstar World B, the population forsook shoes and evolved into birds.
Brontitall
On brontitall, the Shoe Event Horizon was exploited by the Dolmansaxlil Galactic Shoe Corporation who made shoes that were always too wide or in some way would never fit anyone so people were always replacing them. This is why Brontitall, whose inhabitants have now evolved into birds and will never mention shoes, has a geological deposit of compressed shoes. The deposit dates back to when the civilization, which is now made up of birds, once existed on the ground. The Dolmansaxlil Corporation now guards the ground of Brontitall using Foot Warriors, armed robots whose shoes do not fit, causing them to always limp.Friday, October 28, 2016
You Can't Stop Us
A few months ago the corporate headquarters for my place of employment locked our computers down so that we could only access about a dozen websites.
I decided to spend some time exploring what we were left with after the POS upgrade was complete. Just, you know, so I can see what is available still, and to test the limits of the security.
So, this is me.
Very nice of them to leave some glaring "back-door" (and by that I mean overlooked in plain sight) ways around their internet security. Well, Corporate America, you have failed.
Impressively.
Cannot wait to see if these holes are patched up or not. in the next few months.
Assuming I still work here in the next few months.
Sheesh, but I feel like I'm in high school again.

I Get Up In The Morning And It's Just Another Day
Thinking a lot about the things I have seen, done, and allowed myself to be pushed into doing.
But mostly that last part. Mostly how much that last part has been true for my life.
I sort of allowed myself to be pushed into joining the Army. That was a fun experience that I will not regret.
I had a couple of bad weeks at Arby's one year and someone made a job offer that seemed too good to refuse. I planned to spend a few months at it and go back to full time at Arby's ready to move up and get a good life set up. Instead I allowed myself to be pushed into a job I neither like or care about. Then there is the part where my current living situation is sort of prohibitive of moving away from it. Although that part is changing.
I also allowed myself to be pushed into a living arrangement a few years ago that I...Am just going to leave it at that for now. I am still not quite all together mentally from that. I was reading back through the past and wondering what had to be done to just feel like Me again.
I feel like I have gotten a pretty decent start on that. Looking into a career change, one that possibly involves relocating. Which is fine. Reconnecting with some people from years gone by is always nice. I am going to have some fun in a forest with some pretty awesome people next weekend with a camera if all goes as planned, so that will help.
Worst case I could always go back to Arby's for a while...I guess?
But I have always been of the belief that where jobs are concerned the past is in the past, and each new day brings a different opportunity. I just have to see what window is open as the old door swings shut on the way out.
Peace out, yo.

The End
I did not make a man's day when I would not let him ship someone's dead, cremated wife to Florida. I also feel that someone's remains should be treated with somewhat more respect than being slapped into a box and handed over to a shipping company only to hope it gets there.
But that is beside the point.
Also.
No.
The UPS Store location can accept human remains for shipping. This has been today's public service announcement.

I've Got Mortgages On Homes And Stiffness In My Bones
But there again, I am not taking into account the fact that most people don't have the sort of experience that I do, and a lot of people have difficulty trying to follow what I am saying if I just explain it as it comes through my brain. Which means I am going to have to give a demonstration, and have someone say:
"What does that do?"
"Where does that go?"
"How did you do that?"
Just so I can pause and start giving answers until I get something that makes sense. Then I have to write it down.
Sometimes I hate the way my brain works.
I like cookies.
Anyway, where was I? Oh,right. Because once I write a book detailing how to rebuild the POS computers at the liquor store, I can leave. For good.
Huzzah!

Nobody’s Left To Run With
My job is the best thing since hot water!
The hypocrisy and double standard things make me long for the days when I worked for a huge faceless company that did not care about me in one way or another. That made a whole lot of things a whole lot easier.
I seriously (I know how bad this sounds) miss the Arby's right now.
Trying to decide what I am going to do, because this is not going to last too much longer.
The Post Office sounds like a fun place to work.
I would go work at the Starbucks, but I won't be able to live.
Tempted to write a book.
Tempted to run off to Mexico and be a pirate in the Caribbean for a while.
Then write a book about it.
Any other suggestions, let me know.
I really think Jenny had the right idea. She packed up her stuff and she got right out of here...
That is an option too, if I can find guaranteed employment enough to live...
